Genau

Terms of Use

Last updated: July 14, 2026

By downloading or using the Genau app you accept these terms. The app is free for the A1 level and the complete practice gym; the A2 and B1 levels unlock through a single one-time purchase, "Genau Pro" - no subscription.

1. About the app

Genau: Learn German A1-B1 is an educational app that teaches the gender of German nouns (der/die/das) through rules, vocabulary with plurals and audio, a structured A1-B1 course, and spaced-repetition review.

The app is developed by Claudiu Sararu. For support, write to claudiu.sararu@gmail.com.

2. License to use

We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable license to use the app on your devices, subject to these terms and the App Store rules.

The app is distributed through the App Store. For distribution via Apple, the Apple Standard End User License Agreement also applies, to the extent not replaced by app-specific terms.

3. Permitted use

You may use the app for personal, educational purposes. You may not:

4. Language content

Genau compiles basic lexical data (translations, plurals, grammatical information) from open sources credited in Settings → Licenses, while the example sentences, rule explanations and guide cheatsheets are written originally for the app. We strive to keep the information accurate, but errors or omissions may exist. When preparing for an official exam (Goethe, telc, etc.), always verify against the official material of that exam.

The app is not affiliated with and not endorsed by Goethe-Institut, telc, or any other language certification institution.

5. The "Genau Pro" purchase

"Genau Pro" is a one-time (non-consumable) purchase, with no subscription, that unlocks the A2 and B1 content forever on your Apple account. The purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store; the price shown in the app is localized by the App Store for your region.

You can restore the purchase on any device signed in to the same Apple account, from the app's "Genau Pro" screen.

6. Intellectual property

The app, its design, structure, code and the original texts created specifically for Genau (examples, rule texts, guide) are protected by copyright and other applicable laws.

Certain basic lexical data comes from open sources (kaikki.org/Wiktionary, licensed CC BY-SA 4.0; Leipzig Corpora Collection, CC BY), credited in full in Settings → Licenses. The use of this data within the app grants you no rights over the app as a software product.

7. Updates and availability

We may modify, correct, update or withdraw parts of the app, including content, features or technical compatibility. We do not guarantee that the app will be permanently available, error-free, or compatible with all future iOS versions.

8. Limitation of liability

The app is provided "as is", to the extent permitted by law. We do not guarantee that all information is complete, accurate or sufficient to pass an official exam.

To the extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for losses, damages or consequences resulting from the use of the app, the inability to use the app, or the interpretation of the information it displays.

9. Privacy

Your use of the app is also covered by the Privacy Policy, which explains that the app collects no personal data through normal use.

10. Governing law

These terms are interpreted under the laws of Romania, without limiting any mandatory rights you may have as a user or consumer in your own jurisdiction.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when the app or legal requirements change. The date of the latest update is shown at the top of this page. Continuing to use the app after changes means you accept the updated terms.

12. Contact

For questions about these terms or about the app, contact us at claudiu.sararu@gmail.com.
