Alcoholic drinks tend to be der, but Bier is das.

The rule, in plain language

Many alcoholic drinks are masculine in German (der), but in our course this is an extremely rare rule - only one frequent word out of 2,400 falls into this category, so you can't treat it as a strong general pattern. The most important exception to remember is the most popular drink of all: das Bier is neuter, not masculine, even though many learners instinctively guess wrong. The safest approach is to learn each drink's gender individually, starting with Bier as a separate word to memorize.
